One-on-One Coaching Sessions

Effective science communication takes practice. For this, we offer 30 min to 1 hour coaching sessions that apply our strategies covered in workshops to participant’s own projects. One-on-one coaching sessions help students develop and execute successful scientific talks, poster presentations, journal articles, and more. Students may also use our individualized coaching for class projects and lab reports or for writing successful proposals and applications. We offer wide-ranging insight to help you connect with everyone from experts in your field to curious school-aged explorers.

The Coaching Lab tends to focus on one specific goal per session to ensure participants leave with practical solutions and concrete improvements on their projects. For example, a coaching session for someone earlier in their process may focus on identifying an audience and brainstorming how to connect with them. In a second session, a coach could work with the participant to create a strategic outline on their project. Finally, a later-stage session may center around jargon translation or other finishing touches. We do not offer line editing services but are willing to work with students to develop their own proofreading strategies.

Our tools focus on the principles of narrative storytelling to engage any audience in your work. If you would like to learn more about these tools, you may check out our workshop modules here. The Coaching Lab works with participants at any stage of the process, so you do not need to attend workshops in order to sign up for individual coaching sessions.
